Sometimes the media likes to portray lawyers in negative ways however many lawyers, especially country lawyers, regularly help out marginalised and struggling members of our local community.
Lawyers at Baldocks regularly give advice to callers or clients who bring unique problems to our office, without charge. We prepare Wills at reduced costs for those with little or no assets.
We are also participants in the Cancer Council Pro Bono Program. This means we provide free advice, Wills, Powers of Attorney and Guardianship documents for local cancer patients who are struggling to manage their affairs during their illness.
Our lawyers also make the 200km return trip to Cowra once a month to take part in a Legal Aid Regional Outreach Clinic Program. This is a program which gives people the opportunity to get free legal advice about any legal issue which is concerning them. Participation in the program is not means tested, so we see a broad range of local community members from all walks of life. They have a broad range of problems to discuss including family law (property and children), employment law, neighbourhood disputes, AVOs, driving matters, FACS matters, criminal matters, personal injuries, debt recovery, discrimination law, and sometimes other problems that are not always strictly legal issues.
We learn a lot from these clinics and it is very rewarding to be able to help people with problems that may seem complex and difficult to them but sometimes have simple solutions. We also give people guidance as to how to deal with their legal issue, and what local resources are available to help them.
Our local community work helps gives us the expertise and understanding we use to deal with the issues our clients bring to us. It is our job to help people and solve their problems, and that is what we are good at.
